• I use an integrative approach which means I believe in supporting people where they are at and not all forms of therapy fit every person all the time. I may use ideas from Gestalt, Transactinal Analysis or Humanistic therapies.

Creative counselling means we’ll be using the arts as a therapeutic approach that integrates, or blends, creativity and counselling.

  • The creative process can help you access deeper emotions and insights, as well as often being a calmin and mindful activity or a way to bring colour and energy into your world.

It allows you to explore and communicate your thoughts and feelings through non-verbal ways.

    When words fail, art speaks.

I will encourage you to use arts for self-reflection and insight which can lead to personal growth and healing.

By working with art, we can delve into deep feelings in a safe, contained way by putting them out on the page through sounds, or movement; and find coping strategies to calm down or feel stronger.

Creative arts also help teach self acceptance. Just as art isn’t perfect, neither are we. When we’re making, there are no right or wrong answers and this mirrors the idea that in life imperfections are part of being human.

  • I will offer you different art forms such as drawing, clay, puppetry, movement, and music.

We may find and use metaphors or symbols in your artwork that support our understanding of you complex feelings, memories and inner conflicts which we can explore by connecting them to your experiances.

Counselling using the arts is client-centered, focusing on your unique needs and preferences and I adapt my approach based on your preferred art form/s.

  • You don’t have to think of yourself as creative to use the arts as a way to express yourself. We all have some creative parts from when we were small, and sometimes we leave them behind for a while.

All levels of creativity or experience using arts are welcome, it’s about giving it a go and seeing where it takes you.

All you will need is some paper and drawing materials, or I can provide additional materials needed for 6 weeks worth of online sessions for a cost fee.

  • There’s not much difference in how I would run an online session to a normal creative counselling session except you may use your own materials and be in your own space.

Many people find online counselling works better to fit in with their work, life and family balance.

It may be that you struggle with getting out of the house due to health, disability or mental health conditions.

Online working can remove those barriers to getting help.

Being comfortable at home can support anxiety about starting counselling.
